Breaker keeps tripping
Often linked to overload, short circuit, earth leakage, moisture, damaged cable, or faulty appliance. Repeated resets can make damage worse.
Burning smell or hot socket
Heat, smoke, discoloration, or buzzing can indicate loose terminals, overload, arcing, or failing components. Isolate power and request help.
Lights flicker or dim
Possible loose neutral, overloaded circuit, weak connection, motor starting current, poor supply quality, or undersized wiring.
Motor hums but will not start
Common causes include failed capacitor, jammed load, bad winding, low voltage, faulty starter, weak contactor, or mechanical binding.
Inverter or UPS alarm
Could be overload, weak battery, poor connection, charger fault, high temperature, wrong battery size, or transfer-switch issue.
Electric shock from appliance
May involve earth leakage, missing grounding, insulation failure, reversed wiring, moisture, or equipment damage. Do not ignore it.
Charger has no output
Possible blown fuse, failed rectifier, open resistor, bad capacitor, damaged MOSFET, broken cable, or battery protection lockout.
Socket or switch stopped working
Can come from loose terminals, damaged conductors, failed switch, tripped protective device, broken neutral, or upstream connection fault.
Testing & multimeter use
The multimeter is powerful. Respect makes it safe.
This academy gives customer-friendly explanations. Mains testing, distribution boards, live panels, 3-phase circuits, and energized troubleshooting belong to trained, qualified people using proper PPE and rated instruments.
Before any test
- Confirm the job is within your competence. Call a qualified electrician for live mains, panels, unknown wiring, or high-power equipment.
- Inspect meter body, probes, insulation, fuses, category rating, and lead placement.
- Choose the correct function before touching the circuit.
- Isolate power where possible, lock/tag equipment when required, and verify the state of the circuit.
- Stop immediately if you see heat, smoke, water, damaged insulation, or exposed conductors.
Voltage testing
Used to check whether electrical pressure exists between two points. Low-voltage battery checks are beginner-friendly; mains voltage checks are for qualified people.
- Set the meter to AC or DC voltage correctly.
- Use properly rated leads and keep fingers behind probe guards.
- Do not touch bare metal probe tips.
- For absence-of-voltage work, qualified people verify the tester before and after the check.
Continuity testing
Used to check whether a conductor, fuse, switch, or winding path is connected. This test must only be done when the circuit is de-energized.
- Remove power and confirm no voltage exists.
- Touch probes across the part being checked.
- A beep usually means a low-resistance path exists; no beep means open circuit or high resistance.
- Useful for fuses, cables, switches, and simple wiring traces.
Resistance testing
Used on de-energized parts to estimate opposition to current flow. Readings help find opens, shorts, damaged coils, and poor connections.
- Never measure resistance on a powered circuit.
- Disconnect at least one side of sensitive components when needed.
- Compare readings against expected values, nameplates, or known-good parts.
- Motor winding readings require experience and proper interpretation.
Current testing
Current tells how much electricity is flowing. For mains and equipment loads, a clamp meter is usually safer than breaking a circuit.
- Do not place a standard meter in series with mains unless you are trained and the meter is properly fused and rated.
- Use clamp meters for load current checks when appropriate.
- Compare readings with equipment nameplates and protective-device ratings.
- High current, abnormal heat, or repeated trips require professional diagnosis.

Can I reset a breaker that trips again and again?
Do not keep forcing it back on. Repeated tripping usually means the protective device is doing its job. Isolate the affected load and request diagnosis.
Can a multimeter prove a circuit is safe?
A multimeter can help trained people verify conditions, but safety depends on the correct instrument, settings, procedure, PPE, and competence. Unknown or mains circuits require qualified handling.
Do you repair or replace equipment?
Both. We diagnose first, then recommend repair, replacement, or upgrade based on safety, cost, parts availability, and long-term reliability.
Why does my socket get hot?
Common causes include loose terminals, overload, worn contacts, wrong plug fit, damaged conductor, or poor installation. Heat is a warning sign and should be checked quickly.
